PU’s two boys’ hostels convert into girls’ hostels LAHORE: (Thursday, July 24, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has approved conversion of two boys hostels into girls’ hostels to ensure gender equality as per the number of female students. According to the spokesperson of PU, with this step of the Vice Chancellor, the number of boys’ and girls’ hostels in the university has become equal now for the first time in history. He said that PU’s student population consists of 56 percent female students and 44 percent male students. He said that previous, 12 hostels were allocated for 56 percent female students and 16 for 44 percent male students, while due to the increase in the number of female students; girls were facing acute problems in the their hostels. He said that in order to provide adequate hostel facilities to female students on an equal basis Boys’ Hostel No. 17 has been named after Hazrat Bibi Asia (R) while Khalid Bin Waleed Hall has been named after Hazrat Bibi Safiya (R). He said that all the male students of the converted boys’ hostels will be provided with residential facilities in other hostels. He said that due to the recent hostel clean-up operation, space had been created for hundreds of legal students in the boys’ hostels.
